Hyundai IONIQ 5 Goes Off-Road: XRT Variant Joins 2025 Lineup with NACS Charging
September 18 2024,
Hyundai has introduced exciting updates to its 2025 IONIQ 5 electric vehicle lineup, featuring a larger battery, extended driving range, and the debut of the rugged IONIQ 5 XRT variant. The XRT model will also be the first Hyundai vehicle in Canada built at the new Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) facility in Georgia.
The refreshed IONIQ 5 range boasts substantial improvements in performance and convenience. Standard Range models now feature a 63.0 kWh battery, while Long Range versions offer between 77.4 and 84 kWh. These enhancements translate to increased driving ranges, with AWD models now capable of over 450 km and RWD versions exceeding 499 km on a single charge.
A standout addition to the lineup is the IONIQ 5 XRT, designed for off-road enthusiasts. This model comes equipped with a dual motor AWD system and an 84 kWh battery. The XRT variant sports a 23 mm suspension lift, matte-black 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and distinctive styling elements such as digital camo cladding and unique fascias.
José Muñoz, president and global COO of Hyundai Motor Company, emphasized the company's commitment to meeting customer demands: "We're continuing to give customers more of what they want by expanding the IONIQ 5 lineup with a dedicated off-road-capable XRT model, NACS port, design upgrades and a long list of features developed with customers in mind."
In a significant move to enhance charging convenience, the IONIQ 5 XRT will be the first Hyundai model in Canada to feature a Tesla North American Charging Standard (NACS) port. This allows access to over 17,000 Tesla Superchargers without the need for adapters. Other IONIQ 5 models will be offered a NACS adapter, with future Hyundai EVs transitioning to NACS ports exclusively from Q1 2025.
The 2025 IONIQ 5 lineup also introduces a range of technological and safety improvements. All models now come standard with a 12.3-inch infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and over-the-air software update capability. New safety features include enhanced blind-spot systems, forward attention warning, and advanced parking assist functions.
Interior upgrades focus on improved ergonomics, with redesigned HVAC controls and a new center console featuring physical heated seat controls. The cabin of the XRT model is particularly noteworthy, featuring H-Tex seating surfaces with unique XRT patterning and badging.
Hyundai plans to begin deliveries of the updated IONIQ 5 models to Canadian dealerships later this year, with the XRT variant expected to arrive in Q1 2025.
